Femme Fatale Death Row Murderess Christa Gail Pike Possesses Us! How and Why?
By John Kays
What we are learning about Christa Gail Pike breaking out of jail is sending chills down my spine. Christa's tentacles of command and persuasion employed one Donald Kohut, 34, of Flemington, NJ to bribe a former Tennessee Prison for Woman guard, Justin Heflin, 22 (who was just fired March 5) to aid and abet Kohut in springing from an Ice House the only woman on Death Row in Tennessee, 36-year-old Christa Gail Pike. Had Christa seen Freedom's White Light, God only knows what havoc she'd 'ave sown!
The contours of her checkered past have been amply provided in gazettes or chronicles known to each and every one of us. A re-inking of the January 1995 gruesome murder of Colleen Slemmer is familiar grounds to our collective memory. Some mention (has seen print) of a Love Triangle gone south, the torture and mutilation of poor Colleen Slemmer, and even a portion of her skull being absconded as a sick souvenir trophy of retribution, which eventually ended up on a serial killer entrepreneur's web site (Eric Gein).
As they frequently say, you can't make this stuff up, all of this really happened. Sick gawkers or geekers worship Christa Gail Pike and seek out anything they can find on this curious lady killer who is able to control men even from her quiet cell on Death Row. What charms did Donald Kohut elicit from Pike, that he would risk his precious life to spring the darkly jailbird? Kohut's in jail now himself as is Heflin, who claims Kohut threatened to kill him if he didn't help.
Why would someone want to buy an old letter of Christa's (on serialkillersink.net)? Is this similar to wanting to own a painting by Vincent Van Gogh, maybe? You might could conceivably argue this case! Vincent is even more famous since people think he was crazy. He cut off part of his ear and spent days on end standing in hot cornfields making paintings of bright yellow stalks of corn! Christa is wacky too *(just read some of her love letters to Eric Gein and check out her zany, curvilinear handwriting)!
Well, I didn't really make my case, I'll admit it openly to you. So we still don't know why so many weirdos are in the gruesome grip of Christa Pike. Aberrant behavior can be fascinating, and especially when we see it in women. I did some study myself on Carla Faye Tucker and on Betty Lou Beets. I was going to write a book on Betty Lou and even completed most of the research, but never actually penned the True Crime volume. Both Beets and Tucker got lethal injection here in Texas. Both strike up similarities to Pike, I might add.
Women who kill intrigue us; Christa was only 19 when she killed Colleen Slemmer, but went on to nearly kill another woman in jail in 2004, Patricia Jones. Christa is Tennessee's version of Carla Faye, but the only distinction is that Carla Faye was a devout Christian up to the time she met her maker. Pike, it would seem, remains a pagan who'll do anything she can, especially using the dumbest of men, to break out of the everliving slammer!
I don't find her to be particularly attractive myself, but her inmate mugshot is one of the only pix I've seen of her. Well, ABC had some footage of her walking down the hall in prison and I have seen one other picture of Christa. I sure wouldn't buy one of her letters, but if a good writer wrote up her complete story and published it in an attractive paperback edition (with a cheesy black and white photo inset), I'd pick it up in a wink of the eye! Good Men Are Hard to Find and good writers (penning old-timey graft on lady-killers) even harder to find!
