Santorum To Puerto Rico: You Must Speak English If You Want Statehood
Rick Santorum revealed his latent racism when he said that Puerto Rico needed to make English the "main language" as a pre-condition for statehood.
It's a moot issue, because most Puerto Ricans speak fluent English and Spanish. Why would a "states rights" conservative want to dictate to a potential state that English should be its official language. If an American territory where both French and English were spoken had aspirations of becoming a state, would Santorum have been so insistent that they must make English the official language?
Santorum's demand that Puerto Rico make English their official language wasn't his biggest mistake in the island paradise. The conservative Republican hopeful had the temerity to sunbathe sans shirt in Puerto Rico. I don't care if he was sunbathing, he should have worn one of his dorky sweater vests.
Santorum can forget whatever fantasy he had about winning the Republican presidential nomination. Who is going to vote for a racist albino beached whale?
