Mack on Nelson' Tax Shelter: "Appalling, Disgraceful, and Everything Floridians Loathe About Limousine Liberals"

Nelson's Herd of Six Cows Pockets Him $43,000 in Tax Scheme

"Teachers, first responders and other city and county workers did not cause the economic downturn and should not be scapegoats for the nation's economic woes. The way I see it, the issue is about fundamental fairness. Treating people fairly is good for the economy, our democracy and is simply the right thing to do." - Senator Bill Nelson, October 20, 2011 Message To Public Employees and Working Class Floridians

MIAMI, Feb. 14, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Responding to breaking news this evening by the Tampa Bay Times regarding Bill Nelson's bovine tax shelter in Brevard County, Congressman Connie Mack (R-FL) made the following statement this evening:

"With his astonishing hypocrisy on taxes, Senator Bill Nelson has exemplified the term 'limousine liberal' -- someone who says one thing and does another. Not only has Senator Nelson cried out that local and county workers are being robbed by tax loopholes, we now know the identity of that robber is none other than Bill Nelson himself. Senator Nelson's six cows may have found him a legal way to avoid paying the taxes that help pay the county workers he claims to defend, but it is certainly the despicable and dishonorable way. Even in 1999 when Brevard County asked Senator Nelson for his fair sure, he fought them in court. Senator Nelson has made a career in the U.S. Senate based on recklessly spending other peoples' money to help county governments, even while manipulating the system to line his own pockets. If Bill Nelson were to sum up his career fighting for his version of 'tax fairness,' he would say, 'Do as I say, not as I do.''

In an investigative piece released tonight by the Tampa Bay Times, Nelson's escapades of property tax avoidance were documented, amounting to Nelson's six cows on his land in Brevard County eliminating over 70% of his annual property tax bill. Florida law requires proof of a ''bona fide'' farming business, which Nelson's cows have apparently achieved him.
