Bad Breath on Valentine's Day? Columbus Ohio Periodontist Utilizes FDA Approved Laser to Battle Bad Breath

COLUMBUS, Ohio, Feb. 14, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Bad breath on Valentine's Day can be one of the most embarrassing situations for any man or woman. In an effort to help save Valentine's Day for Americans with bad breath, a Columbus Ohio Periodontist is now treating gum disease-related bad breath with FDA approved laser gum therapy.

"As a Periodontist in Ohio, my practice specializes in diagnosing and treating gum disease," said Dr. Jason Stoner of Stoner Periodontic Specialists. "Gum disease-related bad breath can readily be treated with our FDA approved laser gum therapy. This is coupled with a customized home oral health regimen for each individual patient for an absolute solution to the embarrassment of bad breath."

"People with bad breath can contact my office and schedule a Bad Breath Screening that includes a medical history review, a gum disease assessment and a diet evaluation to determine the likely cause of the bad breath," said Columbus Dentist and Periodontist Dr. Jason Stoner.

According to a recent Harvard School of Medicine report, approximately 90 percent of bad breath originates from oral bacteria. Harvard's report provides strong evidence that the same bacteria that cause halitosis also produce gum disease. When plaque collects under the gums, the bacteria in the gums release foul-smelling sulfur compounds. The FDA approved laser gum treatment targets and removes this specific gum disease bacteria.

One of the symptoms of gum disease, according to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), is bad breath that won't go away. The American Academy of Periodontology (AAP) estimates that approximately 75% of Americans suffer from some form of gum disease - from mild cases of gingivitis to the more severe form known as periodontitis.

In addition to treating gum disease, Dr. Jason Stoner specializes in replacing missing teeth with dental implants in Columbus .

February is National Bad Breath Awareness Month , a grassroots dental health campaign sponsored by Periodontists who treat gum disease with FDA approved lasers and wish to raise the awareness among Americans about the prevalence of gum disease and its health risks.
