Whitney Houston's had many hits during her long and influential career, asking a fan to name his favorite Whitney tune is like asking a princess or an actress to name her favorite piece of jewelry.
The late pop icon is probably known best for her ballads, when I hear "I Will Always love You" on the radio I shed a tear almost every time. Classic pop songs are evocative, they take us back to a special place and time. Whitney's signature song takes me back to when I was still young, and true love seemed everlasting.
Who can forget Whitney's rendition of the National Anthem in 1991 Super Bowl? It's a lot of fun to watch accomplished singers humbled when they sing the anthem, but Whitney's special take on the anthem brought everybody to their feet.
But my favorite Whitney hit is "I Wanna Dance with Somebody", this single was released in 1987 when the pop diva was at the height of her career. I can't separate this record from the video which received heavy rotation on MTV. Whitney was so young and beautiful, and so full of energy and life. The pop legend has a tremendous voice, but she couldn't dance very well. In the video acrobatic dancers swirl all around her, and the best that the poor girl can do is jerk her arms and do a little dancing step.
