19 Killed in Kashmir Road Mishap

Srinagar, Feb 10: At least 19 persons were killed and another critically injured when a mini-bus they were travelling in skidded off the road and plunged into a 300-ft deep gorge in Indian administered Kashmir on Friday.
Police said an over loaded mini bus, which was on its way to Thathri from Gwari area of Gandoh in mountainous Doda region of Kashmir, fell into a deep gorge near Shorna-Batyas when the driver lost control of the vehicle while negotiating a sharp curve.
"The matador rolled down into a deep gorge, causing on-spot death of 19 persons including the conductor of the ill fated vehicle. Another passenger sustained critical injuries and has been hospitalized," they said.
Immediately after the mishap, police, army men and locals rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation.
The injured was taken to the hospital for specialized treatment.
