HUDSON, Fla. - (BUSINESS WIRE) - The Bonati Spine Institute, the leading center for the patented Bonati Spine Procedures for minimally invasive laser spine surgery, is proud to award The Bonati Leadership Award to Special Olympics athlete Mark Miller.

The Bonati Spine Institute, working closely with Special Olympics of Pasco County, developed this award that recognizes an athlete that embodies the spirit of Special Olympics and exhibits leadership in the community.

Special Olympics provides year round sports training and athletic competition for individuals with intellectual disabilities. Special Olympics of Pasco County has grown from 175 participants in 1975 to over 900 registered athletes today.

"A great athlete requires more than skill on the field; they require strength of character, compassion, knowledge and a desire to make a difference in their community and to their team or sport. Mark's spirit, commitment to excellence and attitude on the playing field make him a true leader and a role model not just for other athletes, but for all of us. We are proud to present him with a check for $500 in recognition of his achievements," commented Dr. Alfred Bonati, Chief Surgeon at The Bonati Spine Institute.

"We thank The Bonati Spine Institute for its financial support and for being a model of philanthropic responsibility and community action," commented Valerie Lundin, Coordinator for Special Olympics of Pasco County.

For over 25 years, The Bonati Spine Institute has been the leader in least invasive outpatient spine surgery. Alfred O. Bonati, M.D. was the first to develop and patent methods and instruments for laser spine surgery to correct problems of the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine, known as The Bonati Spine Procedures. Their success rate of over 90% offers patients renewed hope. Available only at The Bonati Spine Institute, these procedures have been performed successfully more than 40,000 times to treat conditions that include spinal stenosis, arthritis of the spine, herniated discs, failed back surgery syndrome, and degenerative disc disease.
