Italian Water Polo Team 'Azzuri' to Raise Awareness on Water Conservation

The world champion Italian national water polo "azzuri" is recently recruited by Unite Nations to raise awareness are now about water conservation.
The Italian squad, also known as the azzurri (blues), the Italian Water Polo team, current holder of the world title won in Shanghai (China) last year have become the most recent promoters of 'The Future We Want: Drop by Drop' - an information campaign spearheaded by the UN Regional Information Centre for Western Europe (UNRIC) which invites Europeans to create a slogan inspiring others to preserve water.
"For the third year running we have reached out to creative Europeans to help us spread the message, this time with a view to the Rio+20 conference and on the crucial issue of water." -UNRIC Director Afsané Bassir-Pour
"Drop by Drop" is an initiative of the UN Regional Information Centre (UNRIC), in partnership with the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, and with the support of the Nordic Council of Ministers.
The "Drop by Drop" campaign is part of a larger effort at sensitizing the public to environmental issues ahead of Rio+20, the UN conference on sustainable development, which will take place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in June.

The purpose of the campaign is to create a print advertisement that inspires others to preserve water, now and for future generations. The competition calls on professionals and non-professionals in 48 European countries to design a newspaper advertisement, using the competition logo, which inspires the European public in a positive way.
The winners will have their work displayed on the competition website with possibilities of exhibits and placement in European print media. A jury of graphic design, advertising, photography and environmental experts will select a winner.
Lorenzo Ravina, head of the Italian delegation, also embraced the newfound cooperation between the Italian team and the UN.
"We are proud for having been chosen by the United Nations to represent this awareness campaign on water preservation," he said, adding that the Italian Swimming Federation has "always encouraged the culture of water and whatever, not only sport-wise, is linked to it." -Mr. Ravina
The main task of UNRIC is to spread the UN message, raise awareness and create understanding of issues relating to the UN's objectives. UNRIC serves the Western European Region by providing and disseminating UN information material, UN reports and documents, press kits, posters, fact sheets and brochures.
