SAN FRANCISCO, Jan. 25, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- In honor of International Women's Day, Duane Baughman's Bhutto will be re-aired in a special encore presentation as part of PBS' Independent Lens series. The film, a 2010 selection at the Sundance Film Festival, follows the life and legacy of Benazir Bhutto, the first Muslim women in history to lead an Islamic nation, who was slain by assassins while campaigning to return democracy to Pakistan. The film will be rebroadcast in March in conjunction with the channel's ongoing Women and Girls Lead campaign which highlights documentaries that represent "stories about the leadership of women and girls facing tremendous challenges."

The feature length documentary is a depiction of the strength of Bhutto's life and leadership as a woman, while also zeroing in on the ongoing struggle for women's rights that continues to play out in Pakistan and across the globe. Last year, the film received an EPIC Award from the leading women's advocacy group, The White House Project, for its promotion of gender equality and female leadership in film.

"The story of Benazir Bhutto's life and the legacy she left behind is an inspiring, barrier-breaking one for women in South Asia and worldwide," Baughman says. "I'm honored to be able to tell her heroic story and hopeful it will continue to motivate women and girls everywhere."

Duane Baughman, a national Democratic political consultant and president and creative director of The Baughman Company, has played a pivotal role in ground breaking victories for women leaders across America, including Hillary Clinton's US Senate re-election in 2006, and her 20 primary and caucus wins during her historic 2008 presidential bid. Baughman has been instrumental in helping current HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius become the first woman re-elected Governor of Kansas and Shirley Franklin become the first African American woman Mayor of Atlanta.

Bhutto will be rebroadcast on International Women's Day, March 8th - a day which since the early 1900s has served as a global reminder to recognize and celebrate the economic, political, and social achievements of women past, present, and future.

Bhutto has earned both the ABCNews VideoSource Award from The International Documentary Association and an EPIC Award for its promotion of women's rights and leadership by The White House Project. Most recently, the film has been nominated for a Peabody Award.
