Bonnie & Clyde "Tommy Gun" Sells Live Online on Proxibid
OMAHA, Neb. - (BUSINESS WIRE) - Proxibid (www.proxibid.com),
the world's largest real auction marketplace, today announced that the
Bonnie & Clyde "Tommy Gun" sold at auction on Saturday, January 21 was
sold to an online bidder participating through its live bidding
application. The .45 Caliber Thompson Sub-Machine Gun, which was
acquired after a raid on the pair in Joplin, Missouri in April of 1933,
sold to an online bidder for $130,000.
"I believe that guns, like events in politics and medicine, mark certain
passages of eras and I focus my collecting in that area. I am proud to
have what I consider to be the turn of an era in the Bonnie and Clyde
guns, to add to my collection," said Dr. D. Bruce McMahan, the online
winning bidder of the .45 caliber "Tommy Gun." "I congratulate Proxibid
on the efficiency of the online portion of this auction. As an online
bidder you frequently don't get the online contact like streaming audio
and video to help you understand where you are in the bidding process.
This makes it easy to bid and makes the experience much more enjoyable."
This auction also featured more than 100 firearms including pistols,
revolvers, black powder, rifles, shotguns and accessories, of which
nearly 94% sold online. The auction catalog had more than 72,000 views,
and a total of 64% of all bids were placed online. In all, 300
participants logged in to bid in this live auction webcast.
