Former DEA Agent is Keynote Speaker at the Fight against Financial Crime Conference
Former DEA Agent and Author of "The Infiltrator: My Secret Life Inside the Banks behind Pablo Escobar's Medellin Cartel" will be the keynote speaker at the "Fight against Financial Crime Conference" in Luxembourg City, Luxembourg on February 8, 2012. This conference is hosted by the Luxembourg based training academy of PricewaterhouseCoopers. The attendees will include European based international bankers, attorneys, and financial service providers.
During his presentation, Mazur will share information about the money laundering techniques he learned while working undercover with the most notorious corrupt international bankers and money launderers in the world. He'll provide details about the types of transactions that are conducted throughout the globe each year to launder the $400 billion in annual revenue produced by the illegal drug trade. The goal of this, and many other presentations made by Mazur around the world, is to enhance the private sector's anti-money laundering programs by identifying the types of businesses, geographic areas, and transactions that are most often linked to the proceeds of crime.
As an undercover agent, Mazur spent almost 5 years committing more crimes than most people who are now spending their life behind bars. He was authorized by the U.S. and other governments to commit those crimes in order to infiltrate the banks behind Pablo Escobar's murderous "Medellin Cartel", and to infiltrate the hierarchy of Escobar's organization. In the end, his work not only resulted in the arrest and conviction of roughly 100 high level drug traffickers and money launderers, it also brought down the world's 7th largest privately held bank BCCI (The Bank of Credit and Commerce International), sending many of the bank's top executives to jail.
The fall of BCCI made headlines across the world. The intelligence collected by Mazur's undercover activities enabled the U.S. and other governments to understand highly complex methods used by criminals to abuse the financial community. That knowledge has led to new standards of investigating money laundering offenses.
Mazur is a court certified expert in the fields he will be discussing at the conference. Attendance at the conference is managed by the Luxembourg office of PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWC).
