The World Welcomes The Year of Dragon With Rich and Varied Traditions

Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton today sent her best wishes to send best wishes for peace, prosperity, and good health to everyone celebrating the Lunar New Year.
She said around the world, people will welcome the Year of the Dragon with rich and varied traditions.
"Asian Americans will gather with family and friends in communities across the United States to celebrate their vibrant heritage and the ties that unite all of us." -Ms. Clinton
She noted that President Obama is committed to U.S. 21st century partnership with the people of the Asia-Pacific region. She stressed that the United States will continue to deepen ties with its allies and partners, while strengthening lasting bonds of friendship and cooperation.

"Throughout this new year, and in the years to come, let us continue to work together to realize new opportunities and make progress on the shared challenges we face." -Ms. Clinton
Lunar New Year refers to the beginning of the year in several calendars.
According to the Chinese Zodiac, the Year of 2012 is the Year of the Dragon, which begins on January 23, 2012 and ends on February 9, 2013. The Dragon is the fifth sign of the Chinese Zodiac, which consists of 12 Animal signs. The Dragon is a creature of myth and legend. In ancient China, the celestial Dragon represents an emperor and power. Today, it is the ultimate auspicious symbol signifying success and happiness. May the celestial Dragon bring great good luck to everyone.
