StatVideo LLC Manufactures EchoBox at University of Massachusetts Lowell
ANDOVER, Mass., Jan. 17, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- EchoBox(TM) was featured at the grand opening of the Massachusetts Medical Device Development Center (M2D2) at the University of Massachusetts in Lowell. The $4 Million business incubator M2D2 provides support to small healthcare technology companies. StatVideo(TM) (http://www.stat-video.com) is the first company to manufacture at M2D2. "We gave M2D2 the assembly and test procedures, they completed the first production run of our EchoBox Product, and we are very happy with the results," says Jim Rueter, Chief Technical officer of StatVideo. EchoBox is a video conferencing system that enables high resolution and high frame rate cardiac ultrasound images to be viewed over the web in real time, anywhere, using existing imaging systems and networks.
StatVideo is a Massachusetts life science technology success story. Financed by a grant from Massachusetts General Hospital and DOD, EchoBox was developed, marketed and is manufactured in Massachusetts. "I think that StatVideo is a good example of a company that is everything the Massachusetts life science cluster is all about. They have come here, they are growing, and they have great ideas. Frankly, they are going to make a difference in terms of healthcare in the state, but also contribute to economic growth here in Massachusetts," says Marty Meehan, Chancellor, University Massachusetts Lowell. EchoBox is already in use in several Massachusetts hospitals - Brigham and Women's and Beth Israel Deaconess, at Duke Medical Center, the University of California at San Diego and UCLA Medical Center.
"We have echo machines and staff spread all over our healthcare system. Real-time review with the EchoBox now allows us to have the most experienced individuals look in on every scan. This absolutely changes the way we deliver cardiac ultrasound services. This is good for everybody, but mostly for patients." -- Cardiologist, Professor of Medicine.
"What this type of technology enables is a remote consultation. It not only provides immediate feedback, but additional expert opinions when there might be some difficulty in making an important contribution to the case." -- Director of cardiac anesthesia
"Today, EchoBox is used mostly in the OR, and for management of patients with adult congenital heart disease (ACHD). This year we are launching EchoBox for use in pediatric tele-echocardiography," says Al Kyle, founder and President of StatVideo. "Pediatric cardiologists want to stream live images in a secure manner over the worldwide web. EchoBox is a low-cost, easy-to-use solution for that problem."
