Current TV, the Peabody and Emmy Award-winning television network, today announced that "The War Room with Jennifer Granholm" will launch Monday, January 30th at 9pm ET (with an encore airing at midnight ET). Granholm, the former two-term Governor of Michigan, will host the hour-long live program each weeknight from Current's San Francisco studios immediately following "Countdown with Keith Olbermann."
"Viewers are tired of the left vs. right, shouting-head debates they see everyday on traditional cable news channels," said Granholm. "'The War Room' will cut through the rhetoric and address the headlines of the day in a way that offers real solutions to viewers."
"The War Room' will be the go-to show for progressive political news junkies who want the day's election news unvarnished. No sugarcoating. No talking points. Just straightforward insight, from experience," Granholm added.
"We are very excited about the addition of 'The War Room' to our primetime lineup," said David Bohrman, President, Current TV. Jennifer Granholm has one of the most unique voices in politics today and her very presence on our air, during this very important election year, underscores Current TV's commitment to producing series through our very unique and independent filter."
"The War Room" will take viewers inside the key election races and provide in-depth coverage of what actually goes on along the campaign trail. In February, Granholm will travel to the Obama 2012 "War Room" in Chicago to provide a behind-the-scenes look at how the President's re-election campaign is running.
Each weeknight, Granholm will be joined by a group of progressive political commentators including Laura Tyson, the former Chair of President Clinton's Council of Economic Advisors and one of the country's leading experts on the US economy; former San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom; environmental advocate, civil rights activist, attorney, and co-founder of the Ella Bake Center for Human Rights, Van Jones; former Clinton White House Deputy Chief of Staff and co-founder of Nueva Vista Group Maria Echeveste; and pollster and political strategist Celinda Lake to name a few.
Executive produced by Mark Berniker, a 25-year veteran of the news business in television, online and print, "The War Room," will cap off a nightly roster of progressive news analysis and political commentary beginning at 7pm ET/PT with "The Young Turks with Cenk Uygur," to be followed at 8pm ET/PT by "Countdown with Keith Olbermann." ****
