New Poetry Book Explores Human Experience Through Cycle of Karma
The Fire Behind my Eyes by Dawnell Harrison
"Karma is not something you can control, something you can turn on and off. It's not what you do; it's who you are. Karma extends throughout our entire life experience." ~~ Kevin Chappell, Ebony, Sept. 2003
Are you a 'Debbie-Downer' or a 'Happy-Harold'? Have you ever noticed some people only see the negative side of life and others see good no matter what happens? For those who have experienced life's darkest moments, it's sometimes the belief in light at the end of the journey that gives them hope.
The new book, *The Fire Behind my Eyes,* by critically acclaimed poet Dawnell Harrison, explores a variety of human emotions from joy to despair. "The beauty of poetry," says Harrison, "is its ability to elicit tears, smiles and stark pain through verse and cadence. It is ultimately a celebration of the power of words."
Published in over 30 journals and magazines, Harrison has the unique ability to make poetry relatable for all ages.
The Fire Behind my Eyes reveals:
- The cycle of karma, bad things will happen to good people
- When darkness looms, there is light on the other side
- Why people should never choose pride over love
- The importance of following your 'bliss'
- Waking up each day with a willingness to create something wonderful
"I use poetry to explore all sides of the human psyche and dive into the crevices of the mind," explains Harrison. "It is my hope that everyone who has faced challenges in life - and really, that's all of us - can relate to my words."
Dawnell Harrison was born and raised in Washington State and has a degree in Business Administration from the University of Washington. She has been published in over 30 journals and magazines. The Fire Behind my Eyes is Harrison's second book. Today she lives in Sandpoint, ID with her cat, Casanova.
