Homeless Woman Finds Housing Thanks To Twitter
By Robert Paul Reyes
"A 41-year-old woman from the Chicago area has become a social media celebrity after using Twitter to share her story of being homeless.
AnnMarie Walsh became homeless more than five years ago after getting a divorce and losing her job, according to the Daily Herald."
Some twits use Twitter to announce that they just had a bowel movement, but AnnMarie Walsh is using the microblogging site to share her story of being homeless, and to advocate on behalf of the homeless.
Are you using social media sites to make a positive impact on the world, or simply as a vehicle to promote yourself? I'm not suggesting that it's wrong to toot your own horn, but make sure you also use your Twitter account to promote good causes.
AnnMarie is giving the homeless a face and a voice, millions of us are just a couple of missed paychecks from joining the ranks of the homeless.
A social worker on Twitter contacted Walsh, and helped her to obtain temporary housing. Walsh doesn't let the fact that she doesn't own a computer to stop her from helping the homeless, she uses a computer at a library to reach her Facebook, and Twitter fans.
Show support for AnnMarie and her cause by following her on Twitter @padschicago. I just followed her on Twitter, even though I'm a little bit jealous that she has more followers than me.
