Russell Simmons Muslim Show Support to be Thwarted by Group Lead by Jerome Almon

Leader Is Highly Critical of Rap Mogul

An organization has been formed to counter rap mogul Russell Simmons latest foray into politics with his attack on Lowe's Corporation over the TLC show, "All American Muslim." The group is led by Detroiter Jerome Almon and has formed the Facebook group, "Stop Blakksploitation."

Almon is highly critical of Mr. Simmons' involvement in the issue, stating, "Russell Simmons has no background in political science, no expertise in Middle East affairs, hasn't served a day in the military, and knows nothing about Detroit - yet he is portraying himself as some expert on current issue and controversy." Almon cites Simmons' failed attempt to overturn the Rockefeller drug laws, his not supporting President Obama's presidential run, the abysmal record of his Hip Hop Summit Action Network, the Rush Card controversy with Occupy Wall Street, and a general lack of integrity on issues affecting the African American and Hip Hop community as reasons for America to reject his involvement in this very serious issue.

Almon sees the reality TV show as very unrealistic, and its supporters as insincere and incompetent career exploitation specialsists. "This is no time amateur hour - the American way of life and economy is in serious jeopardy because of what is going on in Detroit in this area. The situation needs to be addressed by the sincerely concerned instead of people seeking to turn a buck . This is not the time for someone seeking self-promotion to exploit the very dire situation. Reality TV is for mindless, harmless, ignorance - not for matters of such a serious nature. Simmons involvement reeks of the O.J. Simpson. 'If I Did It,' FOX interview."

Almon sees the current situation as a continuation of a troubling trend of celebrities to capitalize on media attention by insincerely inserting themselves in national political issues. He gives the example of Donald Trump's continued exploitation of the President Obama birth certificate issue and Rima Fakih Miss USA controversy, and Simmons' support of the Ground Zero Mosque in New York City. "These people need to watch the Tom Hank's movie, 'Charlie Wilson's War,' to see what happens when you leap before you look - 9/11 happens."
