Keanu Reeves became "The One" who knew kung-fu in The Matrix trilogy. Now, he's back using his hands and feet -- along with a sword -- in two upcoming films from the martial arts genre.
The first is Universal Pictures' adaptation of 47 Ronin, where Keanu's character joins a group of samurai seeking revenge against the man who killed their master in the 18th-century Japan.
Keanu will then follow it up with as writer and director of the Mandarin-and-English-speaking Man of Tai Chi, which just received financing and distribution from not only Universal, but also from co-producers Village Roadshow Pictures Asia, China Film Group and Wanda Media Group.
"The opportunity to get further involved in the Chinese market and to bring Chinese films to audiences around the world is important to Universal" David Kosse, president of Universal's international division, said in his statement to The Wrap.com. "'Man of Tai Chi' has an amazing pedigree of filmmakers."
Tiger Chen, who was one of the kung-fu team members for The Matrix, will star in Man of Tai Chi with Keanu playing the villain. Production is set to begin in Beijing in February with additional shooting set for Hong Kong and Macau.
47 Ronin is set to come out on November 21, 2012.
