Putnam Salutes PGA Tour Rookie of the Year Keegan Bradley
BOSTON - (BUSINESS WIRE) - Putnam
Investments today applauded Keegan Bradley, named 2011 PGA Tour
Rookie of the Year following an outstanding debut season as a
professional golfer, which included teaming with Brendan Steele to this
weekend become the first pair of PGA Tour rookies to win the Franklin
Templeton Shootout. Bradley, who earlier this year signed a marketing
partnership with Putnam, became the first rookie ever to win the
prestigious Professional Golfers' Association Championship, one of the
world's four major professional golf titles.
"Keegan Bradley's unprecedented success in his first season as a
professional golfer results directly from his commitment to superior
performance, grace under pressure and dedication to effort and hard
work," said Robert L. Reynolds, President and Chief Executive Officer,
Putnam Investments. "These are values that guide us at Putnam
Investments, and we are proud to be associated with this outstanding
young man, who someday may take his place among the all-time greats of
the sport."
Bradley's dramatic, come-from-behind PGA title win in August, which he
won in a remarkable playoff, was the high point in a season of
unparalleled success for the Hopkinton, Massachusetts-raised
25-year-old. It made Bradley one of only three golfers in history to win
one of the four major championships in their debut performance,
following the historic win by Francis Ouimet in 1913 and Ben Curtis in
2003.
Earlier in the year, Bradley had come to national attention by notching
his first PGA Tour win by clinching the HP Byron Nelson Championship
with the first of his impressive sudden-death playoff victories, only
several weeks after joining forces with Putnam. Bradley capped his first
year on the PGA Tour by winning the PGA Grand Slam of Golf, a tournament
that annually brings together the winners of the four major
championships of men's golf in stroke play competition to see who is the
best.
Powerful Alignment of Brands
As part of Putnam's partnership with Bradley, he is participating in a
comprehensive marketing and branding program that includes a series of
clinics in Putnam's top markets and extensive brand development
opportunities. Putnam's sponsorship agreement with Bradley is part of a
marketing strategy that aligns Putnam with outstanding athletes who
manifest Putnam's results-oriented philosophy. The athletes also reflect
the competitive, success-oriented outlook of the firm's audience of
financial advisors and institutional and individual investors. Among
Putnam's other athletic marketing partners are the New England Patriots
(through the Kraft Sports Group); Olympic gold medal-winning Alpine ski
racer and World Cup Champion Ted Ligety; the U.S. Ski Team and U.S.
Snowboarding teams; and equestrian events in the Greater Boston area.
