NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. - (BUSINESS WIRE) - The Irvine Company today announced the grand opening of the all new Island Cinema at Fashion Island on Dec. 16, 2011, bringing a state-of-the-art theater complex and premier movie-going experience to the heart of Newport Beach.

The seven-screen theater complex, The Island Cinema, has been created with a spacious lobby and a classic look that reflects Fashion Island's Italianate architecture. The theater complex's auditoriums feature stadium seating, oversized comfortable seats and extra-wide arm rests, wider aisles and generous legroom. Reservation seating will be available.

The Island Cinema will offer a unique in-theater dining opportunity including tasty sandwiches, specialty pizzas, quiches, vegetarian spring rolls, pastries and more. Specialty coffee, premium beer, champagne and wine service will also be served.

"We are excited to unveil a truly spectacular theater complex for the holiday movie season," said Dan Sheridan, president of Irvine Company Retail Properties. "We are dedicated to providing the best possible experience for shopping, dining and entertainment, and this beautiful new theater will be the perfect addition to Fashion Island for locals and visitors alike."

The Island Cinema's grand opening will be celebrated with two preview charity benefits. On Dec. 13, 2011, the Newport Beach Film Festival will hold a special movie screening benefiting the annual film festival held in the city each spring. On Dec. 14, 2011, Fashion Island and ocean conservation nonprofit Oceana will present an "Evening at the Cinema" featuring martinis, a movie and restaurant tastings from Roy's, Island Hotel Newport Beach, Cafe Beau Soleil, California Pizza Kitchen, Cheesecake Factory and Daily Grill.

Visitors will enjoy state-of-the-art Sony 4K projection, which offers resolution four times as vivid as the best high-definition televisions. Four of the theaters can show movies in RealD 3-D, the most widely used 3-D movie technology offering stunningly realistic and immersive entertainment.

Movie presentations at The Island Cinema will be commercial free. Seating will be reserved, like at many plays, concerts and sporting events. Seat locations can be requested from a seating map when buying tickets via the Internet, at the box office or through a Theater Concierge at The Island Cinema.

The Theater Concierge also can assist with dining reservations at Fashion Island restaurants.

Irvine Company, which owns Fashion Island and the theaters, has contracted with Regal Entertainment Group to manage The Island Cinema.
