BOSTON - (BUSINESS WIRE) - Dr. Elizabeth Crawford, Director of Educational Research and Design for Lexia Learning, will be the keynote presenter at the 56th annual West Virginia Reading Association Conference on November 18, 2011, at 10:30 AM at the Greenbrier in White Sulphur Springs, W. Va.

A researcher, educator and nationally recognized expert on Response to Intervention, Dr. Crawford was formerly the Director of Interventions at the Florida Center for Reading Research, one of the most respected authorities on reading education in the United States. She has presented to thousands of educators across the country, including sessions at the ASCD national conference, the CORE Annual Leadership Summit, and the Minnesota Elementary School Principals Association annual conference. Dr. Crawford leads the instructional design of Lexia Reading, a technology-based reading program, and is the principal architect of Lexia's unique Assessment Without Testing technology.

Dr. Crawford's keynote presentation, titled "The Relentless Pursuit of Reading Success for Every Child," will give conference participants in-depth knowledge of the most current research on Response to Intervention, effective instruction, and intervention strategies, proven successful in helping all students develop foundational reading skills.

Throughout the state of West Virginia, schools in Clay, Ritchie, Brooke, Hancock, McDowell and Tyler counties are benefiting from Lexia Reading's ability to help advance foundational reading development for students of all abilities pre-K through grade 4, and accelerate reading development for at-risk students in grades 4–12. Lexia's technology-based system of differentiated practice, embedded assessment and targeted instruction provides educators with norm-referenced measures that help identify and prioritize the students who are at the greatest risk of reading failure, and prescribe targeted instructional strategies that help students improve performance on grade-level assessments.

In addition to her keynote presentation, Dr. Crawford will also lead a 1:30 PM breakout session titled, "The Power of Prediction and Prescription," which will explore the Lexia Reading design model as well as the concept of Assessment Without Testing, which was created under her leadership.
