Tea Party Debt Commission Identifies $9.7 Trillion in Spending Cuts without Raising Taxes
WASHINGTON - (BUSINESS WIRE) - House and Senate members sat down with over 200 tea party leaders from
across the country for the final Tea Party Debt Commission report in a
joint hearing in the Russell Senate building. The Commissioners
presented the "Tea Party Budget," a grassroots-generated economic
recovery plan that successfully balances the budget in 10 years,
achieves $9.7 trillion in ten-year savings, and shrinks the government
down from 25 percent of the economy to 18 percent. The hearing took
place simultaneously with the "super-committee" hearing, which has yet
to announce any information on their debt-reduction proposal, and
appears to be nowhere near an agreement.
The hearing served as a counter offer to the super-committee's likely
disappointing findings, and disproves the false narrative that tea
partiers are unable to identify specific cuts to the budget. Grassroots
leaders around the country know that Washington can do better, and the
findings of the Tea Party Debt Commission document exactly what cuts
should be made to preserve America's economic future.
"This is not your father's debt proposal," commented Dean Clancy. "This
is the only existing debt reduction proposal generated over just four
months using cutting edge crowd-sourcing technology, and that cuts $9.7
trillion without raising taxes. While the super-committee is struggling
to write a single proposal behind closed doors, we are here today to
present a bold but practical plan supported by a coalition of hundreds
of thousands of grassroots activists from across the country."
The final Tea Party Budget eliminates four cabinet agencies: Commerce,
Housing and Urban Development, Energy, and Education. It repeals
Obamacare, and improves social security by creating a personal account
option. Among its other highlights are ending farm subsidies, government
student loans, and reducing or privatizing the EPA, TSA, and Fannie &
Freddie.
"Most importantly, this joint-session hearing proves that the winds in
Washington are changing," added Clancy. "The American people are ready
for big bold cuts and eliminating entire departments, and the
representatives on the hill are finally hearing their call. It's very
exciting stuff."
Among the members attending were RSC Chairman Jim Jordan (OH-4), Senator
Mike Lee (UT), Senator Rand Paul (KY), Congressman Jeff Flake (AZ-6),
Congressman Paul Broun (GA-10), Congressman Joe Walsh (IL-8),
Congressman Michael Burgess (TX-26), Congressman Steve King (IA-5),
Congressman Mick Mulvaney (SC-5) and Congressman Raul Labrador (ID-1).
