New Program Lets You Recycle Your Christmas Lights
LOS ANGELES - (BUSINESS WIRE) - Did you know that your old Christmas lights can be recycled? A program
being launched by Crown-ACE Hardware and 1-800-GOT-SCRAP this holiday
season will swap your old lights for a $5 gift certificate redeemable
for purchases over $20 - and that includes strings of holiday bling.
According to Mark Schulein, owner of 17 Crown-ACE Hardware Stores in
Orange, Riverside and San Diego counties, newer lights are more energy
efficient and safer than some of the older products.
"Each year, many homeowners lose their homes due to fires caused by
faulty holiday lights," said Mark Schulein. "This year, we're partnering
with 1-800-GOT-SCRAP, the area's #1 recycling entity, to encourage
homeowners to get rid of old Christmas lights and we'll contribute $5
towards the purchase of new ones...or anything else you wish to purchase
at Crown-ACE Hardware."
Added Cristi Rossi, executive vice president of operations for SA
Recycling, parent company of 1-800-GOT-SCRAP, "We want this holiday
season to be safe and energy efficient for all so we're delighted to
join forces with Crown-ACE Hardware Stores to promote this important
message."
SA Recycling operates 47 recycling centers in 3 states and expects that
1-800-GOT-SCRAP will expand beyond California and Las Vegas in the
coming months. For a list of affiliated recycling centers, visit www.GOTSCRAP.com.
