'Morality In Media' Protests In-Flight Porn

"Morality in Media (MIM) is calling on U.S. citizens and engaging more than 50 European pro-family organizations to contact the European airline, Ryanair, because of its recent announcement that they will develop and provide an in-flight app for iPads and smartphones which will include pornographic content.

According to Dawn Hawkins, a wealth of research demonstrates that pornography consumption is a leading cause of sexual violence and sexual assault as well as a significant contributing factor to sex trafficking. It is also addictive and a danger to children, who will no doubt be exposed to it if allowed on planes." Christian Newswire

I disagree with Hawkins' contention that pornography is a leading cause of violence and sexual assault. Porn is a very broad category that includes films that objectify and demean women as well as movies, some of them produced by ladies, that portray females in a positive light. It would be more accurate to say that the niche genre of porn that depicts women being degraded and brutalized leads a few men to rape women.

MIM would like to ban porn not only on airplanes, but on the Internet and everywhere else. As a writer I am very sensitive when it comes to the issue of censorship; I believe that adults should have the right to view pornography in the privacy of their homes. If porn offends you, don't watch it.

Christians have quite simply lost the battle to ban porn, with the advent of the Internet porn has become a ubiquitous and accepted form of entertainment. You might as well try to ban alcohol or cigarettes.

I rarely make common cause with evangelicals, but I agree that passengers watching porn in an airplane is a rotten idea. There is little privacy in an airplane, and it would be very uncomfortable for a parent and his child to be sitting next to a passenger who is watching porn on his iPad.

The Ryanair executives are brain-dead, porn on airplanes will lead to lawsuits and conflicts between passengers.
