Health Websites to Host Interactive Medical Marijuana Debates

In recent years, some 16 states have decided to legalize or decriminalize smoked marijuana for certain medical patients. With more states considering similar legislation, medical marijuana has became a subject of contentious debate. HealthRadio.net and InsidersHealth.com, in a joint production, have created a unique opportunity for the online community to weigh in on the controversy.

Is It Medicine? The Medical Marijuana Debate will be a LIVE 4-part web series covering the breadth of the Medical Marijuana arguments. The first topic will be The Science & The Medicine (Tuesday, November 8, 2011 at 8:00 PM EST) and will feature expert guests including Dr. Frank Lucido, MD, Dr. Arif A. Khan, MD, and Dr. Dale Gieringer, PhD. As the professionals discuss the recent science and it's possible applications in modern healthcare, listeners to the live webcast will be encouraged to ask questions and post comments on the Health Radio and Insider's Health Facebook pages and on Twitter using hashtag #IsItMed. The webcast will be hosted by Melanie Cole, MS, who will moderate the social media participation and present many of the online questions for the experts to address in real time.

Dr. Frank Lucido, MD, has been practicing Family and General Medicine in Berkeley, California since 1979. Since the passage of the California Compassionate Use Act of 1996, he has been performing Medical Cannabis evaluations, and has written and lectured on the subject. Dr. Lucido is a founding member of the American Academy of Cannabinoid Medicine and founder of MedicalBoardWatch.com and the Association of Independent Medical-Legal Consultants (AIMLegal.org )

Dr. Afrif A. Kahn, MD, is a former surgeon who has found cannabis remarkably effective for his own medical conditions and works in San Francisco providing medical cannabis consultations. He focuses on integrating cannabis as an alternative holistic remedy to each patient's treatment plan. With his medical clinic and personal experience, he has developed clinical guidelines helping new patients navigate the often confusing world of cannabis.

Dr. Dale Gieringer, PhD, has been the state director of California NORML (National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws) since 1987. In this capacity he has spoken with thousands of medical marijuana users and is the author of "Marijuana Medical Handbook." He is Vice-Chairman of the national NORML board of directors. He is also director of the California Drug Policy Forum (DPFCA) and treasurer of the Oakland Civil Liberties Alliance (OCLA). He has published research on the economic benefits of legalization, medical marijuana usage, the history of marijuana and drug prohibition, potency testing, marijuana and driving safety, and drug urinalysis.
