Plans to Secure Tomorrow by Acting Today Detailed at PrepareForLater.com, With Products
Even as the Emergency Alert System (EAS) launches its first-ever nationwide test (2:00 p.m. EST) on Nov. 9, 2011, PrepareForLater.com is initiating a campaign to grow awareness of its position as a comprehensive information and products resource.
According to Chuck and Joyce Clifton of Maple Canyon Co., the founders of PrepareForLater.com, "People are busy living their daily lives and often planning for disaster is only an afterthought."
Chuck points to examples of natural disaster around the world as well as those across the U.S. - from Tsunamis to hurricanes and snow storms - as to how unprepared most people are for a disaster. He explains that "people who have not experienced a crisis firsthand don't fully understand how in the blink of an eye and without warning a situation can change the course of their life, and how, with a few minutes of preparation, people can be in a better position to handle whatever comes their way. Our preparedness content covers everything from protecting yourself and your family when disaster first hits, to evacuating from a dangerous location to an emergency or temporary shelter, to helping others at aid stations, and recovery from disasters."
The content provided at PrepareForLater.com includes an examination of three different kinds of emergency kits - a 72-hour emergency kit, an auto emergency kit and a first aid kit - complemented by example meal plans and lists of items to be included or evaluated for different situations, as well as links to a complete range of products that the public can consider for their personal needs. More unique cooking alternates to gas and electric encompass solar options, as well as water filtration and purification, and gas masks and filters.
"We are committed to producing family oriented products and to disseminating information that helps provide for family security," stated Chuck. "With PrepareForLater.com, we are filling a need for education about emergency preparedness and access to products that can be helpful when emergency situations arise. We are persistent in our pursuit of key knowledge and goods that can help others mitigate a crisis."
About the Emergency Alert System Nationwide Test (http://www.fcc.gov/encyclopedia/emergency-alert-system-nationwide-test)
Scheduled for Nov. 9, 2011, the purpose of the test is to assess the reliability and effectiveness of the EAS as a public alert mechanism. EAS participants currently participate in state-level monthly tests and local-level weekly tests, but no top-down review of the entire system has ever been undertaken. The Commission, along with the Federal Emergency Management Agency, will use the results of this nationwide test to assess the reliability and effectiveness of the EAS as a public alert mechanism, and will work together with EAS stakeholders to make improvements to the system as appropriate.
