HITS Triathlon Series Announces First Event of 2012 in Naples, Florida

"Getting a permit for a major triathlon event in Naples is no easy feat, but we were determined to hold a HITS Triathlon Series event in what we deemed the best location in Florida," said Mark Wilson, race director of HITS Triathlon Series. "We received our permit yesterday and it's now official. We appreciate all the support from the local community and the county officials; they have been great to work with and we can't wait to introduce HITS Triathlon Naples to the rest of the endurance sports community!"

Boasting exceptional weather and some of the nation's most beautiful beaches and golf courses, Naples is the crown jewel of Southwest Florida and a hotbed for triathletes. HITS Triathlon Series - Naples will feature a flat, fast course making it one of the best venues for a triathlon in January.

"The HITS Triathlon Series event in Naples will be great for everyone involved - the local businesses, the local athletes and HITS itself," said Mark Trudeau, owner of Naples Cyclery. "The event is an indication of how far the sport has come in recent years and Naples certainly has the perfect weather, right amenities and a layout geared toward an ideal multisport experience."

Unlike other triathlon events, HITS Triathlon Series events include five distances during a single weekend ranging from the beginner in the HITS open to the experienced triathlete in the USAT sanctioned Sprint, Olympic, Half and Full distances. The HITS Open is a free novice participatory triathlon that will feature a 100-meter swim, a 3-mile bike and 1-mile run created especially for first-timers who never thought that competing in a triathlon was possible.

HITS Triathlon Series has signed a partnership with Naples Cyclery to provide onsite repairs and equipment during the weekend of HITS Triathlon Naples. Located in the Pavilion Shopping Center on Vanderbilt Beach Road in North Naples, Naples Cyclery is Southwest Florida's bicycle source. The shop specializes in bicycle sales, rentals and repairs, with a selection of top cycling brands.

The weekend will also feature a HITS Fitness Festival, which will serve as the gathering place for participants and spectators to interact with local and national sponsors, fitness products, services, as well as event partners.
