'The Secret City' Announces Its Fifth Season of Monthly Services For Artists
Fifth Season of The Secret City - WE WORSHIP ART
Obie Award winning performance group, The Secret City, announces their fifth season of monthly services for artists, and those who believe in the arts. Each gathering has a theme - October 30th is PERSONA, November 20th is COMMUNITY, and December 18th is LIGHT.
Part tent-revival, part-cabaret, and part ceremony, The Secret City is a place where people come to connect with the creative community of New York, and artists come to reconnect to their calling.
With an impressive guest roster including Grammy-award winning singer/songwriter Rosanne Cash, celebrity chef Amanda Freitag, Obie Award-winners Taylor Mac and Jennifer Miller, and a slew of downtown stars like Sxip Shirey, Jomama Jones, Red Bastard and Sarah Small, The Secret City occupies a unique place in the heart of New York's artistic community.
Chris Wells, executive director, said he created The Secret City, "to make a special place to focus the arts, where everyone and anybody can connect and feel inspired."
The New York Times said The Secret City is "Sort of a Salon, Sort of a Church... From its origins as a kind of fortifying ritual for beleaguered theater artists, [it] has grown into a half-irreverent, half-earnest blend of revival meeting and group meditation session."
Featuring live music, performance, food presentations, storytelling, cultural calendar, visual art and The Secret City Singers, each service is a one-of-a-kind event with deep restorative power and tremendous joy.
The Secret City is open to all, suggested donation is $10, but no one is turned away for lack of funds. The Secret City typically meets the last Sunday of the month at 11:30am, at Dixon Place, 161A Chrystie St. between Rivington and Delancey.
