Screen Actors Guild Singers to Honor Composer Alan Silvestri
Meet the Composer III Unites Singers and the Composing Community
The Hollywood Singers Committee of Screen Actors Guild presents Meet the Composer III on Thursday, October 27, 2011 at the Writers Guild Theater, 135 S. Doheny Drive, Beverly Hills, California. A 6:30-7:30 p.m. reception with wine and hors d'oeuvres will be followed by a presentation to composer Alan Silvestri and special performances featuring SAG singers and special guests.
"Alan Silvestri is a composer whose heart has a huge story to tell," said Dawnn Lewis, SAG Hollywood Singers Committee Chair and National Co-Chair. "With "Meet the Composer III," we celebrate his phenomenal artistry and his ability to take us along on his magical journeys. By utilizing the talents of the SAG singers community, he reveals a deep understanding of what professional vocalists can impart to bring the brilliance of a score to life."
Alan Silvestri has scored over 100 feature films and utilized the talents of Screen Actors Guild singers on numerous films, including Forrest Gump, Beowulf, Father of the Bride, Father of the Bride Part II and The Abyss. Silvestri has earned two Academy Award and two Golden Globe nominations. He has won three Grammy Awards for his work on The Bodyguard, Cast Away and Polar Express. In 2007, he was presented with the Henry Mancini Award by the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP) for his outstanding career achievements. This year, Silvestri was the recipient of The Max Steiner Film Achievement Award from the City of Vienna, Austria.
"It is a great honor and privilege to work with the greatest vocal talent in our business, SAG singers," noted Alan Silvestri. "I commend them on their mission to build bridges between all those involved with music in our industry both on the creative and business side."
The Screen Actors Guild Singers Committee represents singers who specialize in on-camera and off-camera vocal performances that have enriched and enhanced the scores of countless motion pictures since the Guild's inception. *Meet the Composer* events celebrate the achievements of the honored guest and the contributions of the SAG singers community to the art of film and television production, while building bridges between singers and composers, music supervisors, producers and directors.
"Each of our Meet the Composer events is as unique as the film composer we celebrate," said Elin Carlson, chair of the Meet the Composer III subcommittee. "Alan Silvestri's contributions to film music are legion, and in that body of work, he uses the full spectrum of the Hollywood singer community. We are delighted to take this opportunity to give him the honor he deserves."
Members of the vocal and composing communities who wish to receive a formal invitation should send complete mailing address, telephone number and affiliation (SAG, AFTRA, ASCAP, BMI, SESAC, SCL) to: MeettheComposer@sag.org.
