Transgender activist Chaz Bono & Lacey Schwimmer performed last on "Dancing With the Stars", a clear case of saving the worst for last. Schwimmer was like a dervish on crack and Bono was like a lumbering Bear on Quaaludes. Bono stood there like a concrete Buddha, occasionally flinging his arms as if he had just been administered an electrical shock.
Chaz isn't a star and he has no discernable dancing skills, he was selected to be on DWTS only because as the first transgender contestant he would generate controversy and ratings.
Chaz agreed to participate in the hit show because it gave him an opportunity to advance his pro-transgender agenda. Indeed, his introductory bio highlighted his work as a transgender activist.
Predictably Chaz was the worst performer in the history of DWTS, but the politically-correct judges raved about his performance. Although, they couldn't quite bring themselves to give him more than 17 out of 30 points.
Chaz has set back the cause of transgender rights about twenty years; I don't know if Middle America winced more at his performance or at the absurdity of watching the judges shower him with praise.
Oh, and by the way I'm not a Republican religious conservative, I'm a gay-friendly progressive who has been writing essays on behalf of gay rights for more than a decade.
