Wife is complicated

The second season of CBS' The Good Wife showed why Julianna Marguiles won the Emmy for Best Actress in a Drama as Alicia Florrick, whose husband Peter (Chris Noth) was in jail for charges of corruption, but also known for his love of prostitutes. Now that he's free and clear, he wants to run for state prosecutor again - and Alicia by his side.

However, she continues to decide on whether or not to return as "the good wife", for Alicia has rebuild herself as a defense attorney for Lockhart/Gardner, where she finds friendship with enigmatic private investigator Kalinda (Archie Panjabi) and unresolved sexual tension with college sweetheart turned boss Will (Josh Charles). The "Team Will" and "Team Peter" debates continues at the start of season two, as Alicia decides to give her marriage to Peter another chance yet still having growing feelings for Will, who declared his love for her - but Alicia never got the chance thanks to Alan Cumming's snarky and charming Eli Gold, Peter's campaign manager. The Alicia/Peter/Will triangle isn't the classic romantic heroine torn between the good guy and the bad boy.

Most of season two found Alicia living somewhat on "cloud nine" both professionally and personally, but the last few episodes will change the character due to a secret that will forever alter her relationships with Peter and Kalinda, who still has a few secrets of her own, and one of them is new Law & Order: SVU detective Kelli Giddish.

There have been a lot of scene-stealing guest stars that helped the series avoid the "sophomore slump" such as Michael J. Fox, America Ferrera (Ugly Betty), Sarah Silverman, Rita Wilson, David Paymer, Gary Cole, Jerry Stiller, and Martha Plimpton (Raising Hope).

Extras includes deleted scenes, campaign music videos, the season one DVD release party, husband-and-wife creators Robert and Michelle King speaking out on developing the storylines for each episode, and "Alicia Florrick: Real Deal".

The Good Wife is very multi-layered: a courtroom drama, a soap opera, a family show, and an character ensemble.

The new season begins on a new night: Sunday, September 25 at 9p on CBS.
