T-Mobile USA Selected as Telecommunications Service Provider for Miami-Dade County Public School District
MIAMI - (BUSINESS WIRE) - T-Mobile USA, Inc. announced today that the Miami-Dade County Public
School District has selected T-Mobile as its primary wireless service
provider. The district has purchased both BlackBerry Curve 9300
smartphones and BlackBerry Bold 9780 smartphones for use by district
administrators and principals. In addition, the school district has
purchased Samsung B2710 "ruggedized" phones for use by custodial and
field staff.
"With the unprecedented economic strain that school districts are facing
across the country, we are proud to be able to provide the Miami-Dade
Public School District with a leading nationwide mobile network while
reducing the associated costs to the district," said Gabriel Torres,
vice president and general manager, Florida region, T-Mobile USA.
"Additionally, by utilizing dedicated Cells on Wheels (COWs)
strategically located across the district, we have provided
administrators with the ability to stay connected in the event of a
natural disaster or emergency."
As the fourth-largest school district in the United States, the
Miami-Dade County Public School District covers 2,000 square miles of
both urban and rural cities. Comprised of 392 schools, 345,000 students
and over 40,000 employees, the M-DCPS needed a service provider that
could provide a complete mobile networking solution. "We worked very
closely with the district to determine their communications needs and
identify those products and services that would best serve them," said
Torres. "Along with dedicated COWs for emergency preparedness, we have
implemented IP BTS solutions for larger facilities, such as district
offices, and signal boosters for smaller offices."
"T-Mobile USA is honored to partner with the Miami-Dade County Public
School District," added Torres. "This is a great win for T-Mobile and
the district. Between the exceptional quality of our handset lineup and
the largest 4G network coverage in the country, T-Mobile provides an
array of services for school districts across the nation."
In May of this year, T-Mobile doubled the theoretical peak download
speed of its 4G network to 42 Mbps in the Miami area, providing
customers with increased capacity, reliability and even more consistent
speeds. Since the beginning of 2010, T-Mobile has invested approximately
$37 million in continuous network upgrades and improvements in Miami,
and now has more than 308 cell sites operating 4G service in the area.
