Free Mobile App Helps Blue Cross Blue Shield of Delaware Members Locate Doctors and Hospitals On The Go

WILMINGTON, Del., Aug. 11, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Delaware residents can now locate a doctor, hospital or urgent care center with the new Blue National Doctor & Hospital Finder® app for iPhone®´, iPad®´ and iPod®´ Touch.

This free app, developed by the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association, is available to Blue Cross Blue Shield of Delaware (BCBSD) members as well as non-members. It allows users to locate local doctors and hospitals in the BCBSD network, or other Blue Cross and Blue Shield contracted providers and hospitals when they are traveling.

The app provides mobile access to the Blue National Doctor & Hospital Finder, which is also available online at bcbs.com. The app includes an Urgent Care Finder to help locate urgent care centers. These centers are an affordable and convenient alternative to emergency rooms for non-emergency illnesses, such as cuts, sprains, sore throats and headaches. The Provider Finder allows individuals to search by provider name or specialty. Users are also able to narrow their searches by distance, language spoken and whether a physician is accepting new patients.

In addition, the app has customizable search utilities that include:

    --  GPS navigation with interactive maps and driving directions to simplify
        locating doctors and hospitals
    --  Text and email options that allow information to be shared and saved
    --  Click-to-call feature that dials a telephone number with one tap on the
        phone's screen, eliminating the need to memorize or write it down

A version of the Blue National Doctor & Hospital Finder app for Android(TM) smart phones will be available later this year.
