Giants Managing Partner Neukom and NFL Players' Smith to Speak at Second Annual Sports Law Symposium at Santa Clara University School of Law

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - (BUSINESS WIRE) - From the new anti-concussion laws on the books in many states, to the NFL's newly resolved lockout, sports legal battles are some of the biggest news stories these days.

On Sept. 8, some of this billion-dollar industry's most knowledgeable legal practitioners, scholars and advocates will discuss the legalities behind the news stories at the second annual Santa Clara University School of Law Sports Law Symposium, Intensifying Sports Law Issues: Concussions, Steroids, Labor Strife and the Use of Player Images.

The event will be held September 8 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Santa Clara University's Locatelli Center, 500 El Camino Real, Santa Clara, Calif. 95053.

Speakers will include:

* DeMaurice Smith, Executive Director, NFL Players Association

* Mark Fainaru-Wada, ESPN Investigative Reporter, Author of Game of Shadows: Barry Bonds, BALCO, and the Steroids Scandal that Rocked Professional Sports

* William B. Gould, IV, Professor of Law Emeritus at Stanford Law School, former Chairman of the National Labor Relations Board, and author of the recently published book, Bargaining with Baseball: Labor Relations in an Age of Prosperous Turmoil

* Sonny Vaccaro, Director of Vaccaro Sports Partnerships and Former Director of Basketball Programs at Nike, Adidas and Reebok

* William Neukom, Managing Partner, World Series Champion San Francisco Giants

Honored Special Guest:

* Jim Brown, Hall of Fame Football Great

Other speakers:

Santa Clara University Athletic Director Dan Coonan; CEO of BDA Sports Management Bill Duffy; University of San Francisco Sports Management Professor Dan Rascher; Retired NFL players Ben Lynch and Shawn Stuckey; Former WCC Commissioner Mike Gilleran; Duke Law School Center for Sports Law and Policy Co-Director Paul Haagen; Sports Economist Andy Schwarz of OSKR; Professors Kevin Greene, Lateef Mtima and Tyler Ochoa; and practitioners actively involved with ongoing and recent litigation.

The event is being presented by Santa Clara University School of Law, in association with the Santa Clara University Athletic Department.

Students enrolled in an institution of higher education who register for this symposium will be admitted free of charge.
