MINNEAPOLIS & ST. PAUL, Minn. - (BUSINESS WIRE) - She is the first known woman in history to cross the ice to both the North and South Poles - and will be returning to Antarctica again next year. But the celebrated Minnesota polar explorer and educator, Ann Bancroft, is going someplace soon that she's never been before -- skydiving with other Aging But DANGEROUS women age 50+ on August 20, during the second annual "Martini Jump Skydive II." The event inspires women to be all they can be and raises funds for Cornerstone, a non-profit organization that helps women in abusive situations. Last year, more than 120 women age 50 and older - including three in their '80s - participated in the first skydiving event, held at Skydive Twin Cities, in Baldwin, WI.

"The goals of the Aging But DANGEROUS (ABD) organization and the mission of my polar explorations are in many ways similar: They strive to inspire and teach women to pursue their dreams, to get out of their comfort zones and to unleash their inherent power," says Bancroft, who will trek to Antarctica in 2012 with a world-wide team of seven other women to raise awareness about global fresh water issues. "Skydiving is something I've never done! And I am very excited to take the leap with a community of like-minded courageous women who are skydiving for a variety of personal reasons and to benefit the important work of Cornerstone."

Bancroft will make a brief speech to fellow skydivers, friends, families and others on the site before her skydive, tentatively scheduled at around 11:30 a.m. The jump costs $240 per person and space is still available. Any women wanting to fly and jump from the same plane when Bancroft skydives can donate $1,000.00 to do so, half of which will go to the Ann Bancroft Foundation and the other half to Cornerstone.

Register Online or by calling 612-225-0428. General Admission is $10 (adults), $5 for children under 12.

"We are thrilled to have this internationally revered explorer and teacher join us to demonstrate that women can do anything they put their minds to!" says Jean Ketcham, co-founder of Aging But DANGEROUS. "Ann will inspire others as she has always done in her life by making her first skydive with this amazing group of women."

"Ann Bancroft is a model Aging But DANGEROUS woman whose work helps power the dreams of young girls and women everywhere," adds C. Suzanne Bates, ABD co-founder. "Her timely participation will help raise funds for women over 50 - unfortunately the fastest growing demographic of abused women in this country."
