New York City Extends Contract with Northrop Grumman to Utilize IPWireless' Mobile Broadband Technology
SAN FRANCISCO - (BUSINESS WIRE) - IPWireless, a leading provider of 3G and 4G LTE wireless broadband
network solutions for federal, state and local government applications,
today announced that New York City has extended its contract with prime
contractor Northrop Grumman Corporation to support the city's
multi-agency government wireless network, which utilizes IPWireless'
mobile broadband technology, for an additional five years.
The New York City Wireless Network (NYCWiN) is the most comprehensive
wireless broadband network of its kind. Designed and engineered by
Northrop Grumman with IPWireless as a technology partner, NYCWiN
delivers new levels of responsiveness, efficiency and cost-containment
for both emergency and non-emergency municipal services. The city
extended its contract with Northrop Grumman based on the network's
proven exceptional performance, gains in efficiencies and improved
government communications.
The multi-agency network supports dozens of municipal departments and
myriad applications, including:
-
mobile fingerprinting, mobile field reporting and mobile access to
photos and crime databases for police agencies
-
remote traffic light management and wireless enabled traffic sensors
for improved traffic flow
-
automated water meter reading for improved usage tracking and customer
billing
"The expertise we have gained by supporting NYCWiN over the past five
years, and now into the future, is unmatched in the industry. Our deep
understanding of the specific requirements of government agencies allows
us to efficiently develop the best performing mobile broadband solutions
for cities and counties of all sizes who are looking to deploy a next
generation wireless government network," said Bill Jones, CEO of
IPWireless.
The network, consisting of approximately 400 cell sites spanning all
five New York City boroughs covers more than 300 square miles and 5,800
miles of roadway. The IPWireless solution offers unique low-latency
Quality of Service and Tier of Service mechanisms to deliver prioritized
and preemptive network access to specified users and groups, such as
government officials or emergency response personnel.
