--Denver Mayor Michael Hancock Among 1000 Walkers at MADD's Annual Fundraiser to Make our Roadways Safer--

DENVER, Aug. 6, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- More than 1000 walkers supported Mothers Against Drunk Driving® (MADD) at the 6th annual Denver Walk Like MADD® event on Saturday, August 6th and raised $90,000 to help eliminate drunk driving and support victims/survivors in Colorado (www.walklikemadd.org/denver2011).

"The pain does not go away with time," said Julie Legg of her son, Sr. Airman Kristopher Mansfield. After returning from a tour of duty in Iraq in 2004, Kris was killed in Denver by a drunk driver whose blood alcohol concentration was more than twice the legal limit. "We will do whatever we can to prevent such tragedies from happening in the future."

Kicked off by Denver Mayor Michael Hancock, the 1000 walkers completed a 5K route circling Sloan's Lake Park in Denver. Participants enjoyed festivities, including a Health & Safety Fair, Tot Spot, Teen Scene, Pooch Parlor, and Bicycle Safety Village. The 2011 Denver Walk Like MADD was locally presented by Bachus & Schanker, LLC and supported by King Soopers, Bell & Pollock, PC and Jay's Valet.

"State Farm is honored to be the national sponsor of Walk Like MADD," said Vice President-Agency Eloy Martinez. "We're coming together as neighbors, co-workers, families and friends to join MADD to make our roads safer."

"We are excited to support Walk Like MADD as the Statewide Sponsor of MADD Colorado," says Darin L. Schanker, founding partner of Bachus & Schanker, LLC. "We've seen firsthand the devastating effects of drunk driving on victims and their families. Through our contributions and continued participation as Local Presenting Sponsor of Walk Like MADD, we support the invaluable programs and victim services provided by MADD."

In 2009 alone, 158 people in Colorado were killed in drunk driving crashes. MADD Colorado serves 2,000 victim/survivors each year.
