Progress Investment Management Co. Publishes Guidebook for Emerging Asset Managers
SAN FRANCISCO - (BUSINESS WIRE) - Progress Investment Management Company has published a guidebook for
emerging asset managers, plan sponsors, consultants and other interested
parties who want to learn more about how emerging managers can succeed
in today's and tomorrow's asset management industry.
Titled TWENTY: Then; Now; Next, the book explores many of
the management and market techniques employed by small but successful
asset management firms, as told from the perspective of a variety of
industry experts, emerging firms that have established themselves over
the years, and Progress Investment Management, a leading
manager-of-emerging-managers for more than twenty years. TWENTY:
Then; Now; Next focuses largely on the human side of asset
management, by showcasing the personal stories of asset management
entrepreneurs. In many ways, these stories illustrate how emerging
manager investing has helped to diversify and enrich the asset
management industry, as well as make it more inclusive. Finally, the
book concludes by asking industry participants thought-provoking
questions about their respective futures and sharing their insights
about emerging manager investing.
"The term "emerging manager" has come to mean independently-owned,
entrepreneurial, or boutique asset management firms, including, but not
limited to, minority- and women-owned managers," said Thurman V.
White, Jr., who is president and CEO of Progress and author of the book.
"These firms are smaller in size, typically managing $2 billion to $3
billion in assets, with performance track records of five years or
less." White further notes, "As institutional investors search globally
for new sources of alpha and new opportunities for diversification and
innovation, we think that emerging managers have more than demonstrated
their mettle."
Among the many thought-provoking subjects covered in this new
publication are such topics as "The Critical Link: Investment
Performance" ; "Equitable Equity" ; "Creating Cultures of Success" ; "Is
There Danger in Doing Well?" ; "Emerging Managers: What's In a Name?" ; as
well as others. Also presented are case histories of established
emerging managers as related by the heads of several notable emerging
investment firms.
