TokBox Welcomes 13,370th Website Using OpenTok Video Platform

200% Spike in Online Video Communications Activity Since Launch of Google+ Hangouts and Facebook/Skype Video Calling

TokBox, creators of OpenTok, the online video platform, announced today more than 13,000 developers, individuals and companies have added face-to-face communication to their site or service using OpenTok since it was launched in November 2010.

Since Google launched Hangouts on June 28, OpenTok has seen:

• 200% increase in inquiries from developers and companies looking to add live video to their site or service
• 31% increase in number of video-enabled apps launched on OpenTok
• 22% increase in 'on screen' minutes
• 68% increase in 'watched' minutes per app
• Proportion of apps incorporating 'group' capability (as opposed to 1-to-1) has more than doubled (15% to 35%)

Of the sites and services using the OpenTok API:

• More than one in three include 'group chat' and/or 'audience' capabilities
• Of the top apps, nearly half (48%) involve 'group chat' and/or 'audience' capabilities
• Traditional non-video chat sites, such as eBuddy, have seen a 17% increase in average 'time on site' since adding video
