City Year, an education-focused nonprofit whose teams of diverse young adults provide full-time whole school intervention to keep students in school and on track to graduate, has teams serving in 20 New York City schools and in 20 other U.S. cities with high-need schools.

"Mayor Bloomberg's Young Men's Initiative is bold, transformative and visionary. It is exactly the kind of integrated, comprehensive approach - encompassing programmatic investments, stakeholder alignment and policy changes - that the nation needs to dramatically change the life prospects of young men of color.

"Studies show that young men who drop out of high school are eight times more likely be incarcerated than high school graduates and suffer significantly higher rates of unemployment. The Young Men's Initiative tackles broad policy changes and agency reforms that will connect these young men with life-changing educational, employment, and mentoring opportunities.

"City Year calls on the young adults of America to serve in high poverty schools to help provide the extra supports that students and schools need to succeed. We are inspired by Mayor Bloomberg's leadership and hope to see the Young Men's Initiative replicated nationwide."
