In Association with Cargill Recall ALDI Voluntarily Recalls Fresh Ground Turkey Product

BATAVIA, Ill., Aug. 4, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- In cooperation with Wichita, Kan.-based Cargill Meat Solutions Corporation's previously announced recall, ALDI has voluntarily recalled its Fit & Active fresh ground turkey as a precautionary measure. Upon notification by Cargill late yesterday, ALDI immediately removed all affected product from store shelves. No other ALDI products are affected by this recall.

The Fit & Active fresh ground turkey product affected by this voluntary recall is in a 19.2 ounce white tray pack with a UPC code of 041498180324, which can be found on the back of the package in the lower right-hand corner. Customers who have the affected product should discard it immediately or return it to their local store for a full refund.

The voluntary recall is associated with the Aug. 3, 2011, recall by Cargill Meat Solutions Corporation, due to potential Salmonella Heidelberg contamination.

Customers with questions about recalled ground turkey products may contact Cargill's consumer relations toll free telephone number at (888) 812-1646. For food safety inquiries, consumers may contact the USDA's "Ask Karen" virtual representative available 24 hours a day at AskKaren.gov (http://www.askkaren.gov/). The toll-free USDA Meat and Poultry Hotline (888) 674-6854 is available in English and Spanish and can be reached from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. ET Monday through Friday. Recorded food safety messages are available 24 hours a day.
