Arts Express: Sarah's Key, The Holocaust And The Female Experience In Movies
By Prairie Miller
Arts Express: Filmmaker Gilles Paquet-Brenner phones in from Paris to Arts Express Radio to discuss Sarah's Key, his eloquent and disturbing fictional journey through the life of a French girl surviving the Holocaust and genocide as it played out in that country during World War II.
LISTEN TO THE INTERVIEW HERE
Adapted from Tatiana de Rosnay's popular novel, Sarah's Key candidly explores as well the buried history of French collaboration with the Nazis back then, and what has come to be known as the Vel d'Hiv Roundup of French Jews in 1942.
Paquet-Brenner also comments on the recent trend in similar movies like Quentin Tarantino's Inglorious Basterds and Czech filmmaker Marek Najbrt's Protecktor, that focus on the female experience of the Holocaust.
