NORTH CANTON, Ohio, Aug. 4, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- An evaluation of its aging automated teller machine (ATM) fleet prompted Arizona's largest credit union to refresh its entire self-service network with help from Diebold, Incorporated (NYSE: DBD). Diebold will replace 21 of Desert Schools Federal Credit Union's ATMs and upgrade another 67 terminals, adding advanced deposit automation technology and personalized marketing capabilities. In addition, Diebold will provide multiple solutions from its integrated services( )portfolio to manage, monitor and secure the credit union's fleet.

With nearly $3 billion in assets and 350,000 members, Desert Schools operates more than 50 branches in the Phoenix, Ariz., area. The credit union wanted to consolidate ATM management services while updating its fleet. As a result, Diebold will deliver security, financial and maintenance services including anti-virus malware protection, RemoteLink to securely pull the electronic ATM journal files, first- and second-line maintenance and a variety of other integrated services. These outsourced solutions will help Desert Schools meet compliance and regulatory mandates, streamline ATM management and maximize uptime for its self-service network.

"As we investigated options for upgrading our ATM fleet to ensure our members have access to the latest self-service technologies, we also wanted to improve our ATM monitoring and reporting capabilities," said C. Lee Brice, senior vice president, strategic direction and operations, Desert Schools. "We now have easy access to reporting metrics that will help us improve our member services. Having these and other services bundled together under one provider will also help us realize internal efficiencies."

As part of Desert Schools' fleet enhancement, Diebold will outfit 67 of the credit union's Opteva® ATMs, including new and upgraded terminals, with deposit automation capabilities. Using the ATMs' enhanced note acceptors and Intelligent Depository Modules® to deposit cash and checks, users will be able to verify deposit amounts on screen. Upon acceptance of a transaction, the ATMs will print deposit details, including check images, on receipts. The new technology will improve credit union members' experiences at the ATM.

"Deposit automation is growing in popularity across Desert Schools' operating region, and we expect the credit union's members to embrace the technology," said Charles E. Ducey, Jr., executive vice president, North America operations, Diebold. "We anticipate that Desert Schools will increase traffic at its deposit automation-enabled terminals with this convenient new capability."

Desert Schools will also enhance self-service channel transactions by presenting personalized marketing messages at its ATMs. Using Diebold's Agilis® Campaign Office software, Desert Schools will standardize branding across its entire ATM fleet, including uniform screen layouts, logos and interfaces. The software also streamlines delivery of targeted, personalized messaging to members at the ATM, enabling the credit union to tailor offers to specific markets, demographics and even individual members.

Diebold and Desert Schools plan to complete the ATM upgrades by the spring of 2012.
