U.S. Commerce Department to Hold Press Call on Release of New 'Women in STEM' Report

WASHINGTON, Aug. 2, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Acting Commerce Secretary Dr. Rebecca Blank and Dr. Linda Rosen, CEO of Change the Equation, will hold a press conference call tomorrow to discuss the findings of a new report by the department's Economics and Statistics Administration (ESA) on women in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education and jobs. The report is the second in a series of STEM reports by the Commerce Department. The first, STEM: Good Jobs Now and for the Future, was released July 14 and profiled STEM employment and STEM workers in the United States.

Change the Equation is a non-profit, non-partisan, CEO-led initiative focused on solving America's innovation problem. As CEO, Rosen leads a nationwide network of more than 110 CEOs who pledge to connect and align their work to transform preK-12 STEM learning in the United States.

During the Clinton administration, Rosen worked for former Education Secretary Richard W. Riley, serving as a senior advisor on math and science and providing counsel department-wide on STEM initiatives. She has also led the National Commission on Mathematics and Science Teaching for the 21st Century (known as the John Glenn Commission) and served as the executive director of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics.
