Infonetics Research: Convergent charging gets sophisticated; carriers name Amdocs, Ericsson top vendors

Market research firm Infonetics Research today released excerpts from its new Convergent Charging Deployment Strategies: Global Service Provider Survey.

ANALYST NOTE
"While operators are investing in convergent charging to support more advanced payment models, they also clearly view these investments as a critical component of their overall product development and marketing strategies. Convergent charging represents a way to support marketing initiatives like cross-sell, up-sell and service bundles (for example, offering a discount on a data service based on video usage), in addition to the traditional benefits of reducing time to market for service rollouts and maintaining a more consistent customer experience across payment methods, services and regions," notes Shira Levine, directing analyst for next gen OSS and policy at Infonetics Research.

SELECT SURVEY HIGHLIGHTS

  • When asked who they see as the top three convergent charging suppliers, service providers most often cited Amdocs and Ericsson, followed by Huawei and Comverse
  • The majority of service providers are using convergent charging to support service convergence (i.e., voice/video/data)
  • The most important criteria service providers cite for choosing a convergent charging supplier is product reliability

ABOUT THE SURVEY
For its 20-page Convergent Charging Deployment Strategies: Global Service Provider Survey, Infonetics interviewed purchase decision-makers for convergent charging software and related services at 20 carriers, competitive operators, and mobile operators in North America, Asia Pacific, and EMEA. The report explores service provider plans for deploying convergent charging solutions and their perceptions of vendors. Vendors named by carriers in response to both prompted and open-ended questions include Alcatel-Lucent, Amdocs, Comverse, Ericsson, HP, Huawei, Nokia Siemens, Telcordia, and others.
