Committed to Serving Military, Veterans, and their Families

CHESAPEAKE, Va., Aug. 2, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Cambridge College in Chesapeake, a private non-profit college serving a diverse population of adult learners, has been accepted as a Yellow Ribbon participant school for 2012 by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs.

The Yellow Ribbon program allows institutions of higher learning (degree granting institutions) in the United States to voluntarily enter into an agreement with Veterans Affairs to fund tuition expenses that exceed the highest public in-state undergraduate tuition rate. The institution can contribute up to 50% of those expenses and Veterans Affairs will match the same amount as the institution.

"Cambridge College has long believed in the value of serving military personnel, veterans and their families," says Dr. Ella Benson, director of the Cambridge College Chesapeake Regional Center. "We feel that this benefits both the students and the College. We place a strong emphasis on adult learning and outcomes, and we've found that those associated with the military tend to bring excellent work ethics, leadership, and problem-solving skills."

The College accepts selected transfer credits for both graduate and undergraduate programs, and schedules evening and weekend classes designed for adult learners. As a participant in the Yellow Ribbon program, the College commits to helping those who are eligible for the Post-911 G.I. Bill fulfill their tuition obligations and achieve a high-quality education.

"The Cambridge College staff understand the challenges military personnel face from day-today and do everything possible to help," said Kevin Sullivan, a Master of Management graduate who is a retired Master Chief with the U.S. Navy. "The best overall experience was learning alongside classmates from the other sister services and civilian professionals."

Students at the Cambridge College Chesapeake Regional Center pursue professional education and degree options across four schools: Undergraduate Studies, Education, Psychology and Counseling, and Management.
