Florida Mosquitoes Are Worse Than in Recent Years, Reports Suncoast Pest Control

Residents Are Urged to Understand the Danger Florida Mosquitoes Pose

Summers in Florida are second to none. While residents enjoy the outdoors and take pleasure in barbeques, bicycle rides, festivals and beaches, they can be placing themselves in harms way. With the rainy season here, Florida Mosquitoes are everywhere. More than just a nuisance, mosquitoes can spread dangerous diseases with just one bite.

Officials all over the state are unleashing hundreds of gallons of pesticide over "hot spots" for Florida mosquitoes. They target areas of standing water in an attempt to control the mosquito larvae before they become blood-hungry adults.

Controlling mosquitoes is a collective effort and therefore residents are being urged to help. A mosquito only needs a little bit of water and a few days to grow into hungry blood hunters. Female Florida mosquitoes are extra hungry this time of year since they require a blood meal in order to lay eggs.

The real danger has to do with the diseases transmitted by Florida mosquitoes. Last year there was a terrible dengue outbreak that infected at least 1,000 people in Florida. Some of the other possible transmissions are yellow fever and malaria; other painful and potentially deadly diseases.

"The best advice," explains Suncoast Pest Control President Thomas Harris, "is to avoid being outside during high activity hours for Florida mosquitoes, generally around sunset and after rainstorms." Another way to lower your risk of getting bitten by mosquitoes is to eliminate standing water. "Something as innocent as a child's toy bucket can potentially harbor thousands of Florida mosquitoes, releasing them on the unsuspecting surrounding area," explains Harris.

This is not always as easy as it sounds. Outdoor events may be unavoidable and standing water is not easily identified or addressed. This being said, a homeowners' best line of defense is to seek the assistance of a professional pest control company to help manage Florida mosquitoes.

Suncoast Pest Control's mosquito management service, when used in conjunction with the efforts of state officials, lowers the risk associated with this time of year.

Steady summer rains and high humidity are leaving residents across the state vulnerable to excessive mosquito bites and infestations. With our Miami pest control, Fort Lauderdale pest control and our Tampa pest control specialists reporting spikes in Florida mosquitoes, it is imperative for homeowners to seek professional help immediately.
