Hampton Hotels' Volunteers Give the Gift of Preservation to Montana Children's Museum
MCLEAN, Va. - (BUSINESS WIRE) - Hampton Hotels' Save-A-Landmark volunteer program helped preserve the
Children's Museum of Bozeman in Bozeman, Mont. today in honor of the
site's 10th birthday. The museum was selected during a
national voting campaign hosted by Hampton Hotels last fall, when
communities across the country cast more than 60,000 votes to help
choose which landmarks would be preserved by the Save-A-Landmark program
in 2011.
Founded in 2001, the Children's Museum of Bozeman was once a mobile
museum, displaying exhibits at local fairs and community get-togethers.
Since then, it has grown into a more elaborate landmark with creative
and innovative exhibits that welcome nearly 20,000 visitors each year.
The museum provides safe, fun and educational opportunities for families
through its hands-on exhibits, youth programs and community events year
round. In addition, the Children's Museum of Bozeman was recently
honored as a partner in the "Ready to Learn" project, which is a
national initiative to improve early education literacy. The project is
sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education in collaboration with the
Corporation for Public Broadcasting and PBS.
"We are thankful that the public chose the Children's Museum of Bozeman
as Montana's Save-A-Landmark site and can't think of a better way to
celebrate our 10th birthday," said Susan Denson-Guy,
executive director, Children's Museum of Bozeman. "The support from
Hampton Hotels has helped us further promote the important role that
children's museums play in childhood education and improved the quality
of our museum for families in the local community."
More than a dozen Hampton hotel employees from Montana spent the day
completing various projects at the Children's Museum of Bozeman,
totaling more than 100 hours of service. Projects completed by the
Save-A-Landmark volunteers include: installing components of the new
outdoor exhibit "How We Roll," replacing outdated wood-paneling on
interior walls with new sheetrock and applying a fresh coat of paint to
the newly installed walls. Hampton also donated $10,000 in support of
the day's projects and future preservation efforts.
"Hampton Hotels is thrilled to be in Montana helping preserve this fun
and educational landmark," said Judy Christa-Cathey, vice president,
global brand marketing, Hampton Hotels. "In a recent survey, we found
that 93 percent* of adults agree that roadside attractions, like the
Children's Museum of Bozeman, are important because they help educate
and entertain America's children. We hope that today's volunteer efforts
will help the Children's Museum of Bozeman engage and inspire children
in the community for the next decade and beyond."
Since 2000, Save-A-Landmark has helped research landmarks in need,
promoted landmark sites and their importance, facilitated more than
8,000 hours of labor from more than 1,500 team members and donated
several tons of supplies - all at an investment of more than $2.5
million. Including the Children's Museum of Bozeman, the program has
refurbished 59 landmarks in 49 states, as well as Canada and Mexico, and
will complete its goal to preserve at least one landmark in each U.S.
state this year. For more information about Hampton Hotels'
