Sourcefire to Share Best Practices for Defending against Malware and Advanced Persistent Threats at 2011 GFIRST Conference
COLUMBIA, Md. - (BUSINESS WIRE) - Sourcefire, Inc. (Nasdaq: FIRE), the creator of Snort and a leader in

solutions, today announced that Oliver Friedrichs, Senior Vice President
of Sourcefire's Cloud Technology Group, and Joel Esler, Sourcefire's
Open Source Community Manager, will speak at the seventh annual GFIRST
Conference on August 7-12, 2011 at the Gaylord Opryland Hotel and
Convention Center in Nashville, Tenn. In individual sessions,
Sourcefire's experts will share best practices for government agencies
and private sector businesses to prevent unauthorized access to their
data.
GFIRST, the Government Forum of Incident Response and Security Teams, is
a group of technical and tactical practitioners from incident and
security response teams responsible for securing information technology
systems and providing private sector support. In his presentation,
Friedrichs will discuss how GFIRST members can leverage technologies and
techniques like cloud computing, collective intelligence, data mining
and machine learning to combat the latest malware threats. Esler's
session will focus on identifying and classifying specific indicators of
an advanced persistent threat and the benefits of an open framework,
such as Sourcefire's Razorback framework, to defend against new attacks.

In his role at Sourcefire, Friedrichs provides direction for
the company's cloud-based technology strategy and executes Sourcefire's
product development roadmap for the cloud platform. He has more than 15
years of expertise in creating innovative security technologies and has
worked closely with numerous government and commercial organizations to
help address their cybersecurity requirements. Friedrichs joined
Sourcefire in January 2011 as part of the acquisition of Immunet, where
he was founder and CEO. Immunet, a leading provider of advanced
cloud-based anti-malware technologies, serves over 1.7 million users in
192 countries. Prior to Immunet, Friedrichs held roles with Symantec,
McAfee, SecurityFocus and Secure Networks.
Esler manages the day-to-day aspects of the Snort, ClamAV,
Razorback and DaemonloggerTM projects, and is also a Senior
Research Engineer with Sourcefire's world-renowned Vulnerability
Research TeamTM (VRT). Esler joined Sourcefire in 2005 after
eight years employed by the Department of Defense. He has worked with
agencies throughout the federal government, including defense and
