Medcor Deployed to Provide Health Services for Flood Relief Workers in North Dakota

MCHENRY, Ill. - (BUSINESS WIRE) - Medcor, Inc., a designated FEMA response team and leading national provider of onsite health and injury triage services, announced its deployment of a mobile clinic, personnel and medical supplies to provide services for flood relief workers in Minot, North Dakota. Medcor will provide 24/7 onsite medical services to approximately 360 flood relief workers operating out of a field operations center. Now that floodwaters have dropped below the flood stage for the first time since spring, relief workers are able to begin to assist in the cleanup and rebuilding of the city of Minot.

Minot experienced extensive damage after the Souris River broke a 130-year high-water record, cresting nearly 13 feet above flood stage. Approximately 11,000 people were evacuated from Minot neighborhoods and flooding damaged 4,100 homes in the city, along with hundreds of businesses.

Medcor is operating under a FEMA contract with Deployed Resources, Inc., which is providing additional support services to the relief workers. Medcor deployed a team of medical and safety professionals for an initial 90-day assignment.

The Medcor team is prepared to respond to medical emergencies and more routine injuries faced by workers everywhere across the county: sprains and strains, lacerations, abrasions and bruises. Relief work is physically demanding in unstable environments, so injuries and exposure hazards do occur. Medcor accompanies the relief workers so the workers do not need to rely on local medical resources which were also affected by the floods. Having Medcor at the field operations center also frees up local medical resources to focus on providing care to local residents. Medcor was the on-site medical provider during the WTC recovery after 9-11, and provided assistance during Hurricanes Ike, Katrina, Rita, and Lili.
